When I first found out I was going to the Mid Tech tournament, I was very excited because I knew it was something different and new to me and a great opportunity. Looking back now I can honestly say it was one of the best experiences I’ve had through tennis. I am so grateful for Capital City Tennis because they helped me pay for my tennis lessons and without their support, I wouldn’t have had the chance to be a part of something this special.

The tournament wasn’t about just competing. It was about meeting new people, having fun, making memories, and growing as both a tennis player and person.I met so many amazing people from all over the US. Even though a lot of us came from different places, we all shared the same love for tennis, and it was so easy to connect with everyone. By the end of the tournament I had made new friends that I hope to stay in touch with for a long time.

Playing the matches was so much fun, every match taught me something new. I was honored to win an award there, but the friendship, lessons, and memories meant even more to me than any trophy. One thing that really touched me was seeing so many African-American tennis players all in one place. Tennis is not a predominantly African-American sport and you don’t see a lot of people who look like you when being on the court, so it was inspiring to be surrounded by so many people who shared the same passion and experiences that looked like me. It made me feel like we were working towards the same goals and supporting one another. Overall, I am so thankful to Capital City Tennis for giving me this opportunity. This experience helped me grow on an offer of court, and if I had a chance to go again, I would go every single year without hesitation. Thank you again for giving me this opportunity Mr. Morton.
