2016 TOURNAMENT WEEKEND REVIEW:
The host hotel was the Indianapolis Marriott North, and tournament sites were North Central High School for juniors, adults and NTRP and Carmel Clay Courts for seniors. MID-TAC invited players from around the country to play in our Annual Championship Tournament and welcomed past players and many new players who had never played MID-TAC. The 258+ players played in 54 divisions over the three day weekend. Saturday weather was beautiful and allowed our Tournament Director, Jack Barton, Jr. of Matteson, IL to dwindle the draws down to the quarter finals. However, on Sunday and Monday we were met with rain for both days.
Each Championship begins with Check-In Night at the host hotel with free refreshments, a goody bag and the chance for players to get reacquainted and/or meet other players for the first time. MID-TAC generally conducts a “Parent/Junior Player Orientation” during Registration to inform junior players, their parents and coaches on how to get the most out of their tournament experience with us but this year MID-TAC showed a historical video “Breaking the Barriers with a short discussion afterwards and displayed artifacts and newspaper articles presenting “Our Glorious Days” history dating back to 1924.
MID-TAC sponsored “free” junior and adult parties on the second night of the tournament weekend with dj’s for dancing, food for juniors, snacks for adults with a cash bar and a free raffle for juniors and $1.00 raffle for adults. 19 Junior Scholarships were awarded during the Junior Party and 15 “MID-TAC Living Legends” were recognized during the Adult Party. Our Glorious Days Exhibit was also reconstructed for players and guests to take another look at the artifacts and news articles that had been accumulated.
MID-TAC has a core of supportive adult players and a growing Opens Division Prize Money and junior development grouping who took full part in the Championship weekend. We also enjoyed the help of over twenty volunteers who worked the entire weekend as Site Directors, Site Director Assistants, Check-In Night organizers, assisting with juniors in the 10under division, getting ice, bananas and other assistance that’s needed for a tournament of this size and duration. Heartfelt thanks to all of them!!
The MID-TAC 2016 Annual Championship Tournament was a major success!! Plans are already in place to increase the Prize Money Divisions for 2017 as well as showcase more of those matches.
Plan to join us June 30 to July 3, 2017 in Indianapolis, Indiana!!
