Friends and Supporters,
WPTA has been busy working on a long-waited project to historically recognize the accomplishments of the former Beatty Tennis Club of Columbus, Ohio, and the Accomplishments of African Americans in the sport of tennis in our community. We are thrilled to finally announce a partnership with the city’s Recreation and Parks Department that will bring to the forefront the rich history of African American tennis in our community. The Project will provide Historical Signage recognizing the Historic Beatty Tennis Club and its former home court location on North Ohio Ave. Also within the Beatty Recreation center the rich long history of African American Tennis in our Columbus community will be show cased.
Please see the attached details of the proposal. WPTA is looking forward to working with the Columbus tennis community in making this historic project successful. We will be collecting artifact’s, articles and memorabilia going back to the creation of the Historic Beatty Tennis club (1949). We need to identify Historic events in African American tennis history, notable firsts, persons of interest and events. This history cannot be lost and forgotten now that we have this opportunity to highlight, show case and preserve it for all time.
June 2018 is the schedule for the completion of this project, so thank you in advance for the support we know the Columbus Community can rally to make this exciting display of our tennis history happen.
Sincerely,
Ed Amos (cell 614-371-2667)
